Protonix™  (pantoprazole sodium) 40mg delayed-release tablets

Indication(s):  Short -term treatment (up to 16 weeks) for the healing and symptomatic relief of erosive esophagitis.

Administration:  The usual dosage is 40mg by mouth once daily.

Pharmacology:  Proton pump inhibitor (antisecretory agent).

WebRx Editorial Notes:  Does not appear to affect drugs metabolized by the CYP450 liver enzyme system unlike omeprazole which was the first drug of this class.  Common adverse effects exhibited during clinical trials include headache, diarrhea, flatulence, abdominal pain, and rash.
