Are there any side effects of taking phenterimine and birth control pills? Does the combination make the birth control any less effective?

I have been taking phentermine for four months now and also taking birth control pills (ortho novum 7/7/7) and have not had any problems. I read up on phentermine before I started taking it and did not find that there were any reports where it caused BCP to be less effictive. I only think you have to worry about that if you take an anti-infective or anti-fungal which phentermine is not.

Kelli,
There are no additional side effects (other than the ones caused by the individual medications) to using the combination of phentermine and birth control pills. Also, there are no drug interactions between them.
There is no evidence to suggest that the use of phentermine makes oral contraceptives (birth control pills) less effective.
